Electrical cooperatives: A powerful tradition of innovation
North Florida’s co-ops made history bringing life-changing electrical power to the region in the 1930s, and today they are breaking barriers again bringing fiber optic internet to the entire region. Co-ops serving the region include:
Formed to provide buying power to member distribution co-ops by aggregating demand, today Seminole is one of the nation’s largest generation and transmission operations, serving nine cooperatives including the four co-ops of North Florida. Resources include the Seminole Generating Station, a 736-megawatt coal-fired generating unit and the Seminole Combined Cycle Facility, a new natural gas plant with a generating capacity of 1,134 megawatts.

Leading the nation’s green energy efforts with the Sunshine Gateway Solar Energy Center in Columbia County and the Nassau Solar Energy Center, FPL is also raising the region’s national profile through its inviting WonderFL promotion.
In addition to affordable electricity, Duke has also fueled economic growth with critical economic development funding through Duke Energy Foundation grants and assistance in site development.
